His brother Pat instantly got his game face on and manage to lock up with his first Steelhead, after a short battle we landed it...we figured it would be a good day after that..the fish got slow for a bit then Pat hit a fresh fish that took him by surprise..it made some real good runs and his eyes lit up..after a good long fight we got that one in the net too..we fish the hole for a bit more and decided to take a boat ride so they could enjoy the ride...we made a few more stops a did some back trolling...we played with a couple and ran into a coho full of steam...we didn't land anymore fish but had a great time and some good talks.Derek broke out some cigars and we all had some laughs and told some stories.

Harry, Kevin and Dave began their annual November Brown trout trips to tributaries between Rochester and Olcott this last weekend, they caught a bunch of spawning Browns (mostly male fish still), domesticated Rainbows and Steelhead. They caught a few trout pushing the 16 pound range. The best part of this weekend was that they were able to focus on the small streams with few other people. 10/24/11 - The River is at 335 CFS and some of the Fishermen are now targeting the steelhead but there is a lot of Kings in the River. Nevin and his Dad were fishing with us on Saturday when Nevin was learning how to float fish with a Centerpin and had a 5 minute lesson, 15 minutes of fighting a nice Steelhead when he landed a nice 15 pound Steehead. With a little bit of rain we are getting the river is going to 750 CFS tomorrow.

10/03/11 -  there are more and more fish moving into the top part of the river. Most people had a good day on Sunday although we did not get the rain we wanted and the fish were rather line shy. There are some big fish around including this one we hit first thing Sunday on plugs which measured 42" long.

10/01/11 - fall is finally here and the fish are as well. Don and Dave have been out fishing for us and they both had great days on Friday. We are getting a little rain (I know you guys east and south of have had your share so please push it our way!) and the temps are dropping and the fish are moving around. The king and cohos are now spread through the river.

9/30/11 - On Thursday we had some rain which will help the fishing out. There are fish though out the river now we are getting some good run of Coho's and King's and the Steelhead are there also. We are starting to get a steady flow of fish coming into the cleaning station here at the SRO now. I am also hearing a lot of good reports from the lower fly zone now.

9/28/11 - we are finally getting a litle rain. With a little color and flow, the fish shoud be a little less spooky and the fishing should get much better! Our friends staying at the lodge did well and there was a bunch of Coho's and Steelhead caught.

9/27/11 - despite the fact that there was a lot of fish sighted in the top of the river, fishermen did not have a great day landing them. The fish were very skittish as the water is clear, it was sunny and the water is still running at 335cfs. The good news is that we are expecting some rain the next several days, much cooler temps, and the best news is of a report of a huge school of fish making it's way up to Altmar! Should be real good in the next few days!

9/25/11 - The fishing in the river is still not what I would call hot and heavy but, there are nice schools of fish making their way up the river and when you are at the right place at the richt time you can catch a lot of fish. There are a lot of Coho salmon that are sitting in the deeper holes between Altmar to Pineville. The bonus is that there are some really nice steelhead in the 10 - 15 pound range being caught with the salmon!

9/23/11 - Check out on our picture page the nice Coho that Chad caught in the river.

Randy and his friend were out fishing with guide Dave and landed a couple of nice fish.

9/18/11 - we finished up our Lake season last night with a flurry! We were fishing with Brian, Dave and Dave's dad. Fishing was slow at first as we managed to land a nice steelhead and King. I had a feeling when the sun went down things night change and as we made our first troll after glowing up the lures we quintupled, five fish at once in the dark! It was pure chaos and pure fun! We landed 4 of the five and had fish and nets all over the boat! What a great way to end a fishing trip and year!

9/15/11 - how about our Salmon Heaven helper Morgan! Not only is she a great help around the lodge but, she can catch some pretty nice steelhead as well! Guide Dave Phillips, Dave will be working with us both at the tackle shop, guiding and working on the charter boat (Dave is a great float fisherman and loves to teach people how to float fish!), took Morgan on a short trip down the river today scouting it out and Morgan caught this wonderful steelhead! Check out her picture on our SRO website!

9/15/11 - Wednesday Don, Jerry, Ed, and Ed were out with us on the lake and had a good day and a great time. They landed 10 for 10 and Don landed a nice 15# Coho.

9/13/11 - Joe and his buddies from New Jersey fished with us on a pm charter and landed a few fish. It was a early bite on Monday when they first got set up on the water they caught a few then it slowed down for the afternoon.

9/11/11 - The fishing in the river and in the lake is very good. In the Lake anglers are catching good numbers of fish in around 40 fow. In the river, we saw a steady flow of fish making their way throughout the entire length of the river. River angler had anywhere from good to great days depending if they hi a good run of fish or not. There was a steady flow of fish coming into our fish cleaning/ smoking station. We will clean and smoke your fish for you or if you are a catch and release fisherman you can stop in for smoked Pacific salmon.

9/10/11 - Giovanni and his buddies were out with us on Thursday and had a good morning.
There are some Kings in the river the Fishermen that are coming into the Tavern are landing a few. We are cleaning fish at our fish cleaning station now.

09/07/2011 - Ed, Christine, and Ed were out fishing on the lake with us on Wednesday and doubled up and landed these 2 nice kings. Then landed 2 more kings then the storm with some wind and heavy rain moved in and the fishing slowed down. They had a great time despite the weather.

9/06/11 - with the anticipated rain, the river will be going up to 750cfs and is sure to bring some fish in. Come beat the crowds and catch some chrome!

9/01/11 - yes there are salmon in the river but not a lot. The few people that are here fishing for them are on average having a couple of hook-ups and maybe landing one or two. The staircase seems to be taking the most. Fish areas that have faster water (bubbles) as the fish will be searching for oxygen rich spots. The fishing on the lake continues to be good with fish being caught from 100 fow to 400 fow.

8/27/11 - Bill, John, Tom & Robin as well as Barry, Lori and Barry's dad joined us Friday and Saturday for some great Salmon fishing! The salmon are starting to pile up and there has been great action with a lot of very big fish. Both groups landed 11 fish and fought a bunch more. Bill caught his largest Brown trout and King in his fishing career and Tom caught his first Kings ever! Every year John comes back and runs the back of the boat so I get to sit back and relax and Kevin got to go up to Maine to shoot a bear. Everybody had a great time!

08/24/11 - Mike and his buddies were out with Captain Kevin today and had a great time. They got a late start due to the storms but still marked alot of fish and caught a few Kings.

8/23/11 - On Monday Tony and his family were here to fish with us but with the bad weather with high winds we were not able to get out on the lake so Tuesday it was a little rough out there and Tony Jr landed his first Coho.

8/21/11 - we had Dave and his firends from New Jersey out today and mostly played chase between the thunderstorms! Inbetween storm we were able to land some nice Brown trout and a Coho. We did have some other fish that came off including a few Kings. I had a great time fishing all day with the guys and we'll look forward to doing it again next year, hopefully minus the storms, if not sooner!

8/17/11 & 8/18/11 - on Wednesday and Thursday we had Brian and Nancy out on Lake Ontario, Wednesday AM proved to be a tough day as we marked fish but had a hard time to get them to bite. We did manage to land three nice fish however. Thursday was a different story, we landed a limit of fish in no time at all and as we were really in lines we hit a double! All together Nancy and Brian landed 4 big king salmon and 4 big Brown trout on Thursday and had a GREAT day!

8/13/11 - Chris Olson and his buddies from Conn. were suppose to fish with on Thursday for 6 hours and Roy Emilio and his friends for 6 hours on Friday and Saturday but a front and 4-7 foot waves kept us of the water on Thursday. We were able to fish on Friday with Roy in the AM and then Chris in the PM. The fishing was tough on Friday as the lake was still sloppy and there was a lot of current and unsettled temperature. We landed a big mature king salmon and a brown trout with Roy and then two nice kings over 20 pounds and a small king with the boys from Conn in thre PM. On saturday things started to settle in and Roy's group had a good day catching 5 big salmon including a nice 14 pound Coho that Roy is going to get mounted and a nice 6 pound brown trout. Even though the fishing was a little tough on Friday we caught fish each trip and we all had a lot o fun. Kevin and I really enjoyed fishing with both groups and look forward to doing it again!

8/6/11 - on Saturday AM we took the Tavormina family out fishing. We searched for salmon and brown trout but the south wind and the front really put the hammer down on us. For the time being the south winds have pushed the salmon north and deep but they will be back as soon as the weather calms down. We finished the trip coming inshore and looking for brown trout and we did manage a nice 8 pound fish and had 3 others on. I wish the fishing would been a little better, we really enjoyed fishing with the Tavormina family and we all had a great time. On the PM trip we took Joe Lugara and his buddies out and we focused soley on the Brown trout. We found them and with the combination of the front having passed through and little boat pressure we had a limit of nice browns in no time. The big fish was a 29.5" X 23.5" football that topped the scales at just under 15 pounds. We all had a great time fishing together with Joe and his buddies!

8/4/11 - well it has been a great summer, I brought a group of 6th grade students to Tampa for a week to swim with manatees and study the ecology, I brought 45 8th graders and some parents to the Florida Keys to swim with dolphins and explore the ecology there, and then Brenday and I went down to Key West for a week to kayak, fish, snorkel and relax. It has been great but it is back to Salmon Heaven and reality! Today we had our first lake trip in awhile and though the bite was not hot and heavy Chris and his dad Randy ended up with a nice limit of three big Brown trout, two small Kings and a big Laker. We are really low on water so keep you fingers crossed for rain!

08/24/11 - Mike and his buddies were out with Captain Kevin today and had a great time. They got a late start due to the storms but still marked alot of fish and caught a few Kings.

7/4/11 - Patrick, Pattie and Montana went fishing with us today and we had a great day catching King Salmon and Steelhead, of course Montana caught the two biggest Kings!

7/3/11 - My good friend Ize came up for a visit and we took a few hours to row around the lower reservoir in Altmar and ended up with this 6 pound smallmouth!

6/25/11 - another great day with Bob and his buddies on Lake Ontario! We set up looking for brown trout but after hearing that there were a few kings around, I decided to pick up and try for a king. we set up and hit a 15 pound king right away.after that we landed several small kings in the 18 inch range so we decided to finish up the trip looking for brown trout. The browns had moved in and we doubled up right away. we pretty much had constant action for the rest of the trip and ended up with a limit of fish plus a couple we let go!

05/07/11 - this Saturday the Snyders were up for their annual fish trip with us and again we all had a wonderful time. It was a bit cool on the Lake and very crowded with boat traffic so we looked for a place away from the crowds to catch fish and managed to do so. They both hooked up several times and landed fish on the fly rods. Towards the end of the day they ran lures on their way to the Pineville ramp and had fish on the entire way.
